I never knew I would be so excited about what happened tonight. I never knew I had such a desire until I had a small glimpse a couple of weeks ago of what this would lead to. Several months ago Andy said it was a bad idea and too much work. What am I talking about??????????????? The kids are bathing in their own bathrooms!!!!! Woo hoo!!!! No more sharing a bathroom with my children after 5 long years.
A couple weeks ago, Olivia and Sophia decided to take their bath in Olivia's bathroom. After much encouraging by Andy to Boston, Boston was finally convinced to take a shower in his bathroom. I heard all of these discussions while I was cleaning downstairs and took off running upstairs to give the children everything needed for bath time that was in my bathroom. Olivia and Sophia had their shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Boston had his shampoo, soap, towel, and jammies ready to go. And then something surprising (it shouldn't have been too surprising since we keep having odd problems in this house) happened. The shower didn't work. Water came out of the faucet but no water came out of the shower head. I thought Boston would have been happy by such a development. But noooo. He flipped out. Screaming, crying, crying, screaming. All over a shower head. All over a shower that he didn't want to take in the first place. The drama. As a result, he had to take his bath in his sister's bathtub.
Fast forward to tonight. Boston's shower is fixed, and he took a shower in there all by himself. He was so darn cute and little in that shower. I started singing, "Oh Happy Day!!" He finished faster than I could get the camera, so no picture of Little Man in the shower. A picture might also destroy his right to privacy!
Hopefully having the children bathe in their bathrooms will continue because I'm really tired of sharing my bathroom. At first, when the twins were babies, sharing a bathroom made sense. I didn't have to go up and down the stairs to bathe them in the little bathroom, one less tub to clean, and I wanted to keep the new (5 years ago) towels new. I'm now tired of picking up bath toys to take my bath. I'm now tired of picking up their clothes. I'm now tired of them being in my bathroom. I've decided my room should be a sanctuary with no toys or any other item belonging to my children in there. Andy has the responsibility of teaching them to clean up after their bath. Hopefully they will learn to take pride in keeping their rooms and bathrooms picked up and orderly.
Up for tomorrow night: shower, bath, and brushing their teeth in their own bathrooms!!

Now you just gotta let them splash!! :)
ReplyDeleteHow has declaring your bedroom a toy-free zone gone?
emily, the back of the tub is slanted and sophie likes to slide down it. i hate that and the splashing. b and o don't bring many toys anymore. i make them pick up the toys that they leave behind rather quickly. they are giving me a lot more pictures.
ReplyDeleteHooray! Isn't it a great feeling when they graduate into something that does not involve you or your space! I think I'm gonna cry thinking about little Boston being in that big shower and taking his own shower! They are growing up.
