This entire conversation happened within 30 seconds. All speaking right after another without allowing time for what one child said to sink into another child's brain. This is just a snippet of what happens over and over throughout the entire day.
Olivia: I want an abaya.
Me: Why?
Olivia: Because they are pretty.
Boston: (in a loud impatient voice) I want what the men wear.
Sophia: (in a sweet, I better ask for something, too voice) I want a mermaid.
Now I'm on the search for an abaya for Olivia and Sophia (might as well by the same) and a dish dash for Boston. I think these will make great birthday presents.
On a side note...Our Dubai journey began a year ago. Our family has adjusted and enjoy our life here. I think proof of that is that the kids are asking for the local dress. They aren't confused by it anymore.
P.S. search abaya and dish dash on the internet and you'll find pictures for what these are.

Dish dash sounds like a made up word. :) I laughed out loud at Sophie wanting a mermaid. How cool that your kids are getting such a cross-cultural experience like this! What 5 year old knows what an abaya is?!
