Plane Ride

It's 3 am here, and I can't sleep. Instead I'll answer a question many people have asked...How was the plane ride? The answer...not too bad.

Adults and children boarding an Emirates flight don't bring much luggage onboard. My children and I were an exception. The kids had 1 bag each, and Andy and I each had 2 bags. The children had coloring books, markers, games, dolls, dinosaurs, movies, pillow pet, and a blanket in their bag. They didn't need hardly any of it. Emirates gives out little backpacks with snacks, coloring book, crayon, toothbrush, and even a cow or camel to dress. Plus they feed you two meals and a snack. By the time you eat, sleep, and watch a few movies, the flight is almost over.

Boston and Andy sat in front of the girls and me. Andy did have the easier job because Boston never cried, got bored, or opened his suitcase. Not even for his blanket! He watched movies, slept (which he said he would not do) played with the camel, and ate.

Olivia was quite well-behaved also. She had her pillow pet, blanket, and a Tinkerbelle coloring book. Her TV was broken so she didn't have a chance to watch a movie until the end of the flight. She colored, ate, and slept. No fits.

Sophia had a little more trouble. She was fussy until she fell asleep on me. I fidget thereby causing Sophie to not sleep deeply until I gave her the life saving medicine Benadryl. (She just had some two hours ago as well!) She slept well once the medicine kicked in. She started getting fussy towards the end of the flight, so she sat with her daddy. Guess what...she fell asleep again lying on him. Andy put her to sleep like this tonight while they were both eating pizza. He doesn't fidget like me, and I think she finds him quite comforting.

All in all the kids were well-behaved and the flight seemed faster. I am wondering what it will be like when I do this flight without Andy. Will Boston and Olivia be just as good? Will Sophie be more relaxed? They will all be a year older, so hopefully the answer to those questions is yes.

  2. Glad to hear you guys are there safe. Sounds like quite a plane experince. I thought a two-leg flight to Burlington, Vermont was difficult with two kids. Guess I am a wuss. Take care all.

  3. I'm glad it went so well. By the time y'all move back to the states, the kids will probably have a standard routine of what to do during the plane ride. They will be real pros!
