After listening to, "Is it here yet?" fifty million times yesterday, I was super excited to see the moving trucks arrive at our house. Two small trucks arrived first. After those two were emptied, the guys went for a 3rd truck. They even had to put a few boxes in a fourth truck. I stood at the door with a stapled pack of papers to check off 274 box numbers and direct the men where to take the boxes. This seems like an easy job, but factor in the heat, heavy boxes, and a line of 4 guys holding the heavy boxes waiting for me to check off box numbers, I started feeling a little guilty about flipping through 10 pages trying to check off a number. I am however fairly certain everything is here.
The children had two important jobs as well. (1) Stay out of the way and (2) direct the movers to their rooms. They went up and down the stairs over and over just about the entire time it took to unload the trucks because they were so excited that their toys finally arrived. Boston just wanted his blue jeans (which won't be here until July), Olivia just wanted her Princess dresses, and Sophie just wanted what her Sissy wanted. The next question that I've heard fifty million times is, "Can I open another box?" The answer, "No."
Day one consisted of unloading the boxes and Day 2 consisted of unpacking the boxes. At first I was anxious about having someone unpack the kitchen stuff and put it willy-nilly in the cabinets. I thought about telling the guys to leave all the kitchen boxes packed. I voiced this to Andy, and he logically told me to relax and let them do the work. Good advice, Andy. Even though the counter tops are full of my precious dishes, and the cabinets and drawers are unorganized, it was smarter to let the movers unpack. Why? Moving is not environmentally friendly. The worst part is the paper. There are gobs and gobs of it. I have no place to throw away the boxes and paper. I saved 6 boxes of paper to use for Windexing, but the rest has to go. Hopefully they will recycle.
Overall the unpacking was a pleasant experience. My job was made much easier because now I just need to organize the house. The kids' rooms will be a large undertaking since I need to reorganize toys and toy storage. In the meantime, I just need to keep them from bringing out every toy they own!
I enlarged the first pic because I wanted to see a glimpse of your neighborhood - it is SO PRETTY!! A fountain? In the desert?! Awesome! I am dying to see more pics and see it in person!!
